Barcelona Awaits Official PSG Offer for Ferran Torres Amid Transfer Speculation

Barcelona is awaiting an official offer from Paris Saint-Germain for striker Ferran Torres, according to reports. While there has been discussion about Torres agreeing to a move to the French champions, no formal bid has yet been submitted to Barcelona’s offices.
Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo indicates that despite the ongoing talks, Barcelona has not received a concrete proposal. Torres is expected to join Barcelona’s training next Wednesday, alongside other World Cup winners from the squad.
Transfer Discussions Underway
In France, reports from outlets suchs as Onze Mondial and Le Parisien suggest a potential transfer fee of around 50 million euros, which PSG may be prepared to offer for the Barcelona forward. Mundo Deportivo notes that there is a belief across the border that the deal has a strong foundation for a rapid agreement.
One factor that could facilitate the transfer is Ferran’s reported reluctance to rejoin Barcelona’s training on Wednesday, even temporarily. PSG has already communicated its interest in the player, who previously played for Valencia, to Barcelona. The next step involves PSG converting this interest into an official offer that Barcelona can evaluate.
Ferran’s contract with Barcelona is set to expire at the end of next season. His stock reportedly rose significantly after he scored a goal for Spain in the World Cup on July 19. Since then, he has made statements about his future at Camp Nou as links to PSG have intensified.
Ferran had previously stated that Barcelona needed to demonstrate their desire to keep him. Reports indicate that PSG has since reached an agreement with Ferran. Direct discussions between PSG and Barcelona have commenced.
According to MARCA, Ferran has pledged the next four seasons to the Parisians, who are expected to pay approximately €50 million for his services. This potential deal comes after Barcelona reportedly hesitated to offer the striker a contract extension.
Impact on Barcelona’s Attack
Should Ferran’s move to PSG be completed, Barcelona could face a significant void in their attack. Coach Hansi Flick might find himself without a natural, first-team center forward. Ferran was the only number nine remaining in Flick’s squad after Robert Lewandowski joined Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire this summer.
While players like Raphinha and Lamine Yamal possess talent, Barcelona may require a potent frontman to defend their La Liga title and compete in the Champions League. New signings Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi are capable of playing in that position, but their skills are considered more suited to wide roles. It is suggested that neither player could replicate the production of Lewandowski, who scored 120 goals in 193 appearances for Barcelona.
Barcelona is reportedly hoping to acquire Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid, but progress has been limited as Diego Simeone is reportedly unwilling to part with the player. Additionally, Hoffenheim striker Fisnik Asllani, who was previously a target for Barcelona, is reportedly available again after a move to RB Leipzig did not materialize.
Ferran’s motivation for a potential move out of Catalonia is reportedly to secure more consistent playing time. He had previously played a secondary role to Lewandowski before becoming a regular in Flick’s starting eleven last season.
Despite PSG’s recent dominance, it is suggested that Ferran might have fewer opportunities as a permanent starter under Luis Enrique. He is now considering a move to Parc des Princes, where Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia lead PSG’s front line. Enrique is known for heavily rotating his players, particularly towards the end of the season as the Champions League progresses.
Barcelona had previously stated that their only striker who had played as a number nine in the area over the past two seasons since Lewandowski’s departure was not for sale, unless the player himself requested to leave, which would then open the door for offers from interested clubs.
The player is expected to report for training next Wednesday.
